Obituary for Artamise Augusta O'Donovan

Print
On Tuesday September 3rd, 2019, our beloved mother, grand-mother, and great-grandmother Artamise “Artie” O’Donovan passed away at the age of 106.

Artamise was born to John and Mary (Parent) Shermer on a farm in Rush City October 1st, 1912. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City and graduated from Hinckley High School in 1931. She married her sweetheart, Edmund O’Donovan on November 29, 1933. They moved to St. Paul in 1941, relocating to the East side in the 1950’s where she lived until her husband died.

In 1996 Artie moved to White Bear Lake and lived at Pioneer Manor where she made many new friends. She never met a stranger; she enjoyed being with people and was a friend to many. She was kind, caring, witty and wise, and told the best stories, right to the end of her long life.

Artie was proud of growing up on the farm and attributed her long life to working hard, eating vegetables and an occasional beer or glass of wine. In her 90’s she would walk to the farmer’s market to find the best produce.

She was known for her bread and cookie baking and writing poetry, which were lifelong hobbies for her and she shared them with everyone. She was an amazing woman and will be missed by many.

Artamise was preceded by her husband of 63 years, Edmund O’Donovan; daughter-in-law Karen O’Donovan, grandson James O’Donovan and infant grandson Gregory O’Donovan; siblings Gerald Shermer, Sylvia Erickson, Eunice Anderson and their parents, John and Mary (Parent) Shermer.

Artie is survived by sons Robert O’Donovan of St. Paul and Dennis O’Donovan (Cindy) of White Bear Lake; grand-children Erin (Di Betta) and Kevin O’Donovan and great-grandchildren Cassandra, Ryan and Delaney.
