Obituary for Joyce Lorraine McGrath (Loken)

Joyce was born to Kenneth and Lorraine Loken on April 1st, 1949. She was from Long Prairie where she grew up with her eldest sister Dianne and younger sister Glenna.

Later Joyce and her family moved to St. Paul where Joyce attended and graduated from Harding High School in 1967. In 1973 She met John McGrath through an introduction conducted by her older sister Dianne. The couple quickly fell in love and married on May 11, 1973. A little later, they had two children, Patrick and Pamela.

Joyce resided in St. Paul with her beloved husband for 48 years. She was an avid gardener and family was always the main focus of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Passed away peacefully after a long hospital stay on October 9, 2021 at the age of 72 years. Preceded in death by parents Kenneth & Lorraine Loken. Survived by husband of 48 years, John; children Patrick McGrath & Pamela Pelkola (Jeff); grandchildren Tyler, Mikeala & Wesley Pelkola; sisters Dianne Leis & Glenna Belland (Roger) and many nieces & nephews. Retired from Target and was an avid gardener. Memorial Mass Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 10:00 am at PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CHURCH, 1725 Kennard Street, Maplewood with visitation one hour before the Mass. Reception to follow service at Jimmy’s Event Center, 1132 County Rd E East, Vadnais Heights, MN 55110. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Please wear something red, Joyce’s favorite color. Special thanks to the caregivers at St. John’s hospital for their loving care.
