Kathleen Lorraine Zaiger

Age 59 of Mounds View – Formerly of White Bear Lake

Kathy was born at Miller Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 15, 1960. She was the fourth of eight children to Barbara (Stoltzman) and Harold Zaiger. She was in the White Bear Lake High School Class of 1978. From there, she went to the University of Minnesota, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She majored in art history, which was well-suited to her love of both art and history. Kathy’s artistic talent started at an early age, and was a major part of her life for many years to come. She liked to paint, but her real love was drawing and sketching, which she continued to do most of her life. Over the years, she has been a follower of the UofM sports teams, especially the men’s hockey team. Later in life, her love of flowers – particularly roses and wild flowers - drew her to get involved in gardening. In her late 40s, Kathy was diagnosed with Celiac disease, which restricted her ability to eat many of the foods she loved. One of the foods that she could still have, which she loved to the end, was Taco John’s Potato Oles. Kathy was very family-oriented, and remained close to her siblings throughout her life. She will be remembered for her quick and quirky sense of humor, which was reflected in her artistic drawings and her relationships with many of her siblings.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Harold Zaiger, and her sister Lanette. She will be missed by her siblings, Larry (Sharon) Zaiger of Arkansas. Dale (Janet) Zaiger of California, Tom (Debbie) Zaiger of New Brighton, Mary Zaiger of Mounds View, Jean (Brian) Westley of St. Paul, and Gloria (Katie Lipe) Zaiger of St. Paul, her niece Jessica (Bill) Kraus of Cottage Grove, her nephews, Randy Zaiger of River Falls, WI and Scott Westley of St. Paul, her great-niece, Colleen “CJ” Kraus, and many other family and friends.

There will be a gathering to celebrate Kathy’s life on August 15, 2019. Friends and family will gather from 4-7pm at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Avenue in White Bear Lake, where some of her artwork will be displayed. In respecting Kathy’s wishes, the family will hold a private interment before the gathering.
