Obituary for Louis John Corbo

Louis (Louie) Corbo

Louis was born on May 15, 1921 to Anthony (Tony) and Josephine Corbo. He was a lifelong resident of St. Paul’s East side. Louis was extremely proud of his Italian heritage and was first generation Italian in St. Paul. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy August 1942 and served at various stations during World War II. He was honorably discharged October 1945. He obtained the rank of Carpenters Mate 2nd Class. Throughout his working years, Louis was at the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads where he worked first as a break man and later as a carpenter for over 40 years. His father (Tony) also worked at the railroad for 40 years. He loved to play Gin Rummy with his “pals,” enjoyed fishing, refurbishing homes and spending time with his grandchildren. His six grandchildren meant the world to him. One of his favorite past times was old time dancing such as the Linde Hop and Polkas. He won many trophies for his dancing skills and proudly displayed them. In his younger days, Louie was an avid baseball and softball player. He collected many photos and newspaper clippings about the Italians that grew up in his East side neighborhood. He also was a long time Moose Lodge member.

Louie is preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Josephine; his brothers, Gene, Nick and Lincoln; his sisters, Edith (Rossi), Eleanor (Bobrowski) and Joyce (Conlin); his great-grandsons Gabriel Steiner and Jack Corbo; and his special friend Vivian.

Louie will be dearly missed by his son David (Janet) Corbo of New Richmond, Wisconsin and his daughter Katie (James) Petrasek of Buckeye, Arizona. He will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren, Todd (Robin) Corbo, Kirsi (John) Dahl, Scott (Linda) Corbo, Jeni (John) Wallraff, Jami (Steve) Flaten and Dena (Ryan) Telschow. His great-grandchildren are Kevin, Jordan, Sara, Kaylee, Alayna, C.J., Alexis, Sam, Lane, Zachary, Andrew, Alivia, Cooper, Edwin and Grayson. He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law Stella Corbo, many nieces, nephews and friends.
