BARND
LuVerne “Lu”
Age 91 of White Bear Lake, MN

Passed away peacefully on Sunday November 10. Born in Hartley IA, Lu left the family farm to obtain a degree in education. At the University of Iowa she met Joseph Barnd. They married and moved to Aurora IL and began raising a family. In 1969 Joe and LuVerne purchased a hardware store in southern MN. For the next thirty years, the couple worked side-by-side operating a very successful retail business. Upon retirement, they moved to Galena IL. Lu cooked, gardened, golfed, laughed and made countless friends in the community. She was an active volunteer. The Fourth of July was always a special holiday for the Barnd family. The children, who had scattered to various parts of the U.S., returned to the hometown of General US Grant for merriment and reuniting. LuVerne always over prepared for the occasion and no one left unfed. Joe died in 2007, Lu continued living in Galena until 2017, when she moved to White Bear Lake to be closer to family. Predeceased by husband Joseph and infant son Joseph Jr. She is survived by children; Daniel (Becky) Fayetteville PA, Mary (Dennis) Sonnek Mahtomedi MN, Patricia West Kodiak AK, Andrew Wells MN, Susan (Janice Ruybal) Colorado Springs CO, and Thomas (Lori) Minneapolis MN; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Catholic funeral service will be held at St Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4741 Bald Eagle Ave. White Bear Lake at noon, Friday November 15. Visitation one hour prior to service. Private interment, in Galena IL, will take place at a later date.
