Wayne Glenn Hopkins
Wayne was born in Duluth, Minnesota on February 7, 1945. He graduated from Benson High School, Omaha, NE, and obtained his teaching degree from Wayne State College, Wayne, NE. He met the love of his life, Connie Sue Rees, in Norfolk, NE, and married her January 8, 1966. He moved his growing family to Minnesota and became a Physical Education and Health teacher in St Paul, where he and his wife championed education equality and fairness. He taught at Mechanic Arts HS, Washington HS, Como Park HS and Murray Jr. High; and coached football, wrestling, badminton, and soccer throughout the area. Wayne mentored students to trust their own abilities; many of his athletes still consider him a father-figure. In the summers, Wayne enjoyed family road trips, hiking with his wife, and fishing expeditions. He built cabins up north, sharing his love of outdoors with his children. In retirement, Wayne delighted in his grandchildren’s pursuits. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Amelia (nee Senarighi) and Wayne D. Hopkins, and his beloved wife, Connie Sue Hopkins. He is survived by his children, Kristin (son Joshua) Hopkins of St Paul, Jon (wife Loan, children Max and Rees) Hopkins of Shakopee, Angie (husband Chad, children Carly, Ryan and Mitchell) Neihart of East Bethel, and Sandy (Ben, son Alexander) Hopkins of Minneapolis; his siblings, Dave Hopkins, Alex Hopkins, Rosalie Maher and Robert Hopkins.
